We ended last year with a week-long project in Baja Sur for gear and apparel brand Outdoor Research. With a half dozen avid runners, we headed out on an adventure road trip around the peninsula in search of trails leading into the craggy mountains. The ‘goods’ were found in the areas around the small Mexican towns of Cabo Pulmo and Todos los Santos; nice singletrack winding into the hills or along the coastline. While it was nice to chill out on the beach with a cold cerveza after a break of dawn running session, the shoot wasn’t without its perils. We were introduced to the Pacific bull shark and a very healthy Baja California rattle snake.  Our crew was almost constantly on the mover, covering a lot of ground. An all-day mountain run to the top of Picacho de la Laguna (24 miles, 6,000 ft) capped off the week. At just over 7,000 feet, it’s the highest point in the Sierra de la Laguna that forms the backbone of Southern Baja. Views from the top extended both to the Pacific and Sea of Cortez (and all the snakes and sharks down there).

The work has been running in OR’s catalogs, advertising and social media this year. And a you can read about what we found out there in the campo in an upcoming issue of Trail Runner. We want to give a huge thanks to our sponsors Scarpa, YETI Coolers, Honey Stinger, Injinji and Skullcandy for taking care of our crew on this project. Mucho gracias!
